East-West Highway disrupted in Nawalparasi East

KAWASOTI, August 27: The vehicular movement along the East-West Highway in Nawalparasi East has been completed disrupted as a diversion near 23 Smriti in was swept away following a torrential rain.  Information Officer of District Police Office Madhusudan Singh said that the highway is fully disrupted since 9:00 last night.   The flood caused due to torrential rain has washed away the diversion developed in course of Narayanghat-Butwal road widening campaign.    Singh said that they were facing hardships to immediately resume the vehicular movement as rain has not stopped and the diversion was fully damaged.  Similarly, vehicular movement along the diversions at Gaindakot, Thumsi and Bhedabari has even become difficult. Furthermore, a landslip has occurred in Daunne area of the highway. A team of police personnel has been mobilised to clear the debris in Daunne.   According to police, different areas including Kawasoti, Gaidakot, Devchuli, Madhayabindu, Hupsekot and others in Nawalpur are inundated following the torrential rain.   Information Officer Singh said that details of the losses caused due to flood, landslide and inundation have not arrived.

East-West Highway obstructed with Hume pipe swept away

NAWALPUR, July 8: The Narayangadh-Butwal road section along the East-West Highway has been obstructed following incessant rain. According to Spokesperson of District Police Office DSP Dilip Kumar Giri, the highway was disrupted after the flood took away a Hum Pipe of the road section near Kawaswoti Thanachowk in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Sustapurba).  However, efforts are underway to resume traffic operations along the highway that has been obstructed since this morning, he informed.  DSP Giri said that a diversion will be constructed soon to operate light vehicles on the road in the first phase. Heavy vehicles will be put on hold for some hours till the problem is fixed. A long queue of vehicles is seen on the road along the East-West Highway, he shared.

Four die, 49 injured in Daunne bus accident

DAUNNE May 19: At least four people have died and 49 others have sustained injuries when a passenger bus met with an accident at Daunne in Nawalparasi (West) along the East West Highway on Wednesday morning.  The ill-fated passenger bus (Na 5 Kha 2713), which was bound to Rukum (West) from Kathmandu with a total of 58 passengers, skidded off the road nearby Banskhola at the Bardaghat-Daunne road section at around 5:30 AM on Wednesday.  According to the District Police Office, of the four passengers who died on the spot, two have been identified. Two others are yet to be identified. Deceased have been identified as Kalapan Pun, 27, of Tribeni, Rukum (West) and Dhanraj Gharti, 46, of Sisne-4, Rukum (East), said DSP Raju Lama. Passengers with critical injuries were sent to Butwal for further treatment while others are undergoing treatment at a local hospital, police said.

Daunne bus accident: four dead, 49 injured

PARASI, May 19: At least four people died when a passenger-ferrying bus met with an accident in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta West) this morning. The accident took place nearby Khursani Khola in Bardaghat-4 along the East-West Highway at around 6.00 am today.  According to the District Traffic Police Office, the bus fell down some 200 meters off the road. The Rukum-West bound bus (Na 5 Kha 2713) from Kathmandu Machhapokhari met with the accident, informed Traffic Police Office chief Police Inspector Basudev Nepal.  Among the deceased identified are Kalpana Pun, 27, of Triveni rural municipality-6 and Dhanaraj Gharty of Sisne rural municipality of Rukum-West.  The bus was carrying a total of 58 passengers and 49 of them were injured in the incident. The injured were rescued from the spot and were taken to local Chisapani Hospital and Sanjeevanii Hospital, shared spokesperson of District Police Office DSP Raju Lama. Other five passengers are in good condition, police said.
